Beethoven and Higdon: Collaboration with soprano Sarah Shafer

Vocal and instrumental chamber works by Beethoven and Jennifer Higdon, featuring Beethoven’s rarely heard arrangements of folk songs from the British Isles along, Higdon’s Love Sweet, originally premiered by members of the Lysander Trio, her evocative Color Through piano trio, and Beethoven’s final great piano trio “Archduke.”

Beethoven: selections from Irish (WoO 152, 153), Welsh (WoO 155), and Scottish (Op. 108) folk songs for soprano and piano trio

(Re)Discovering Tango with bandoneon virtuoso JP Jofre

Argentinian author Jorge Luis Borges said of the Tango that it “Converts the outrage of the years into a music.” This program tells the story of the Tango over the years, as different cultures fused together to create its special character. Spanish music, African dances, and Italian Opera set the scene in the first half, while the second half showcases the possibilities that Tango presents today, with music for Bandoneon and Piano Trio by JP Jofre.
